We have an experienced team of instructors, all of whom have current Surf Lifesaving GB (SLSGB) lifeguard, International Surfing Association (ISA) or Academy of Surf Instructor (ASI) Surf and SUP qualifications, and full disclosures.
SAM SENIOR INSTRUCTOR
“I love the stoke you get from helping a customer get their first wave!!” Scottish Juniors team coach 2016, ASI Level 3 Surf and Stand Up Paddle and ISA Surf Judge with twelve years of coaching all levels. Sam won the 2009, 2010, 2016 Scottish National Longboard surf titles and came 8th in European Surf Champs Longboarding in 2017.
JOSH SENIOR INSTRUCTOR
“whether its doing a backflip on a bodyboard or flying down the face of a big wave on a surfboard – it’s all rad!!!” ISA Level 2 Surf Instructor, ASI SUP Level 3 Instructor, and Bodyboard coach. Eleven years teaching experience and two decades Scottish surfing experience. Josh is among the top bodyboarders in Europe (4th European champs 2017). His acrobatic skills have won the Scottish Bodyboarding title multiple times.
LISA – COAST TO COAST INSTRUCTOR and OFFICE MANAGER
Lisa is super awesome – an ace sup/surf instructor and office Manager! She brings a load of energy, a fair slice of Celtic charm and a happy smile daily to help our operation tick. It’s likely the first person from Coast to Coast you speak to will be Lisa and shes even developing her skills, now an international ISA surf judge!
JAKE SENIOR INSTRUCTOR
Jake has been with the team since 2013, from our Junior Assistants to full senior instructor in 2017. Always with a smile, Jake is super laid back especially as a Cambridge Graduate and was the most improved instructor of our team in 2016. He will be our main instructor on the west coast islands in 2018! A real asset!
Edinburgh surf grom, Iona joined our team from school surfing courses in 2013. She’s great with kids and in 2016 became our youngest ever instructor at 17yrs! She’s also a great young surfer coming 2nd at the Gathering of the Clans Ladies division 2016 and represented Scotland in 2017!
Lynn McFadden, Lynn will be joining us as a level 1 surf instructor in 2018. As an ex school teacher, Lynn has great experience working with children. She also has experience working both in Scotland and Sri Lanka teaching surfing and we are excited she is joining our team for 2018. Photo to follow.
At coast to coast we pride ourselves on developing our junior surfers, many of which benefit from years of surf development and in-house training before becoming Coast to Coast instructors of the future. The next generation are below :
Clover has been kicking about the surf school for a decade, learning off the extended surf family! Now aged 15yrs Clover is a main of our summer operation, always super friendly and great with kids and adults! In 2017 she was part of the Scottish Junior Surf team winning the u16 division in Ireland. She is also up for everything, froths on Stand Up Paddling, skates on a Carver quicker than the senior instructors and jumps off the highest Coasteering cliffs. Loads of talent what will 2018 bring?
Noah is the oldest of our junior team at 16years, Noah has a lovely fluent surfing style and great young skaters. He represented Scotland in the juniors for the first time this year. The quietest of our groms Noah is always keen to give advice on surf technique and an inspiration to the young kids in our summer holiday courses!
Mikey had a great year in 2017, winning all our local junior surf categories and finishing 2nd at U18 in the Scottish Champs (aged 13yrs). He also represented Scotland internationally coming 3rd in the U14’s and 4th U18’s in Ireland – a great achievement and a great future. Mikey is really enthusiastic, stoked and always helpful in lessons.
Malcolm has been in our junior team for three years and is the most improved of our surf team in 2017. Hes grown so much and could be mistaken for the oldest of our groms, full of energy with a cheeky smile hes really reliable and always looking to help!
