Scottish Surf Champs March 2011 Thurso
Congratulations Edinburgh based local surfers Angus Macdonald (4th), Adam Rusbridge(3rd) and Dunbars Sam Christopherson(2nd) who all made the final of the Scottish Longboard competition in Thurso on the 19th/20th March. Sam also made it through 4 rounds in the open shortboard division just getting knocked out in the semi-final in perfect overhead Thurso East. The open finalists all make the 2011 WQS competition and also the Cold waterpro in Ireland. The Scottish open division was won by Thurso’s Chris Noble and Longboard by Aberdeens Mark Boyd.

Scottish Bodyboard Invitational (Late October)
Over the October break a top class bodyboarding competition took place on the East coast with bodyboarders from around Scotland arriving to compete. With some of the best bodyboarding I have ever witnessed in a competition in near perfect 3-4ft surf the guys put on a real show. All the way through the heats it wasn’t just enough to do one move and get through with many established finalists getting knocked out of heats due to barrel/ air combos by other competitors. The eventual final saw Paul, Tim and Josh make it through with Paul scoring some great waves and long tubes putting down the marker. Tim then set the standard with a really good combination of spins, rolls and tubes before Josh caught a couple of amazing waves including ARS (Air with a 360 spin mid air before landing) taking the lead. However Tim with the grit between his teeth was determined not to let his older brother win again and caught a wonderful wave, pulling a deep barrel into a perfect ARS, two more spins and a roll to finish and take his first ever bodyboard title!! Credit must also go to Josh who tried an air reverse roll in the dying minutes of the final and almost landed it something the top bodyboarders in the world on the international circuit aren’t yet doing!!
