Coast to Coast Surf School

girlbelhavenCoast to Coast Surf School is based in the coastal town of Dunbar, offering surf lessons at the beautiful beach of Belhaven.

The school provides friendly British Surf Association qualified surf instruction that introduces beginners and intermediates to the fun of surfing in Scotland. Lessons with Coast to Coast are open to all ages from 7 years upwards.

The surf school runs lessons every day there is surf from March to November. For the more adventurous we run scottish surf tours to the most remote edges of the Scotlands varied coastline. We even offer the opportunity to meet the local surf population with regular surf barbeques, film nights, parties and competitions.

The Surf School has a new surf hub next to Dunbars train station with office and surf cafe. We will also be offering free surf lifts from the station to the beach for all train customers in 2010 if arranged in advance.

Wednesday and Thursday looks flat/v small and then we see a small wave on Friday for beginners. The weekend should see small waves but nice size for complete beginners - its also favourable winds and warm - good teaching conditions. We have further potential good news in that it looks like it will be warm next week and we should see good teaching conditions with much bigger surf.

C2C Retail

The next ex-hire sale at the cafe will be Sep 11th 3pm. With wetsuits, hardboards and soft boards for sale. More details to follow. All are welcome to bring there own kit to sell too.

C2C Social, Environmental & Surf Community

Sun 25th July Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) gig at Coast cafe with “Jakil and Mark Corbett” producing some top tunes in the sun to around 100 surfers, locals and families. Recommend highly both the two bands!

£300-£400 raised for SAS too.

The Midsummer beach party on Friday 18th June was a great success with a beautiful sunny evening and around 40 people turning up to enjoy a building swell, cracking sunset and huge beach fire! Photos to follow.

Past events included

* The 1 mile charity paddle on Sat 10th April 10am raised £200+ for sports relief. Thanks to all those that turned up and for Belhaven surf club who teamed up with us to organise it. Fastest lady over the 1mile paddle was Diane King in 21min 52 sec. Fastest man was Sam Christopherson 16min 09. Fastest senior lady was Karen Hood in 27min 52 and fastest senior man was Davy in 27min 55.

* Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and Coast to Coast joined forces on the 27th/28th Feb, with over 30 turning up to help beach clean three local beaches. We collected a two van loads of plastic and other items from the beaches and returned to Coast cafe for well earned hot drinks and an exclusive preview of SAS’s latest surf movie.

C2C Competitions

The next local surf competition will be the C2C Retro surf event at Belhaven in early September. Dates and info to follow soon.

The Scottish Surfing Championships in Thurso was held on the 6th/7th March with one of the best swells for 5 years for a scottish comp (see photos) and a large turn out. Our East coast surfers did really well with quite a few finalists, Angus Macdonald made the longboard final coming 4th and Sam (c2c instructor) won the Longboarding title. In the seniors shortboarding Jason Burnett finished 3rd with Sam finished just ahead in 2nd and in the juniors our 14 yr old surf assistant Max came 2nd. wqssurfThis years $125,000 WQS 6 star surf competition in Thurso was run in testing conditions on the North Coast from 12th-19th April. Congrats go to Chris Noble, the first Scottish surfer to make it past the first round in World Qualifying 6 star event winning his first round heat with a barrel. The event was won by South African Roydon Bryson.

Coast Cafe

skaterampLaunched in Dunbar last year with over 200 people getting down to the funky tunes and watching Danny MacAskill and the Clan Mountainbike team and local skaters putting on a show!! The cafe is back open for 2010 season and we now have great selection of soups, sandwiches, quality cakes, coffees and drinks plus wonderful summer garden and fire for the winter. The surf cafe and new surf school base are located just next to Dunbars train station EH42 1JX. For upto date events and opening times check out cafe.
